Hold it Up to the Light

21 Apr

I paint myself

into a corner

unwittingly,

a-buzz with

possibility.

I lay each

color down –

bold, heady, right

– always believing

I’ll change what needs

changing, I’ll

blend what needs

blending

when the time

comes

but

it never does.

What I need

to learn

to do

instead

is sit

a moment,

select one

idea,

shuck it like corn

and hold it up to the light

before I begin.
